I completely agree that gay people should be allowed to be together and given all of the rights that same sex couples have. However, the definition and purpose of marriage is between a man and a woman and is for the purpose of responsible sexual reproduction. On that premise, gay marriage should merely be called something else. I don't think it should be called something else because they don't deserve it, but because it is simply a different thing altogether...

That isn’t the standard that marriage is held to in today’s society, though. Marriage is looked at and advertised as two people joining together to celebrate their love. It is no longer simply a social contract made in order to promote ‘responsible sexual reproduction’. What about couples that physically can’t have children? What if a man or woman is sterile, should they not marry?

I just believe, and again this is my opinion and I am not speaking for anybody else, that marriage should be properly redefined. I mean, it pretty much already is through the means of the media, but if the media is going to portray marriage as a celebration of love, then we should adhere to that idea and allow all of those who love to marry if they so choose.

  1. funbunny said: Marriage has nothing to do with reproduction. People get married and don’t have kids. People don’t get married and have kids. Marriage is a partnership and contract to share assets and benefits. Anon’s argument is typical bigot rhetoric.
  2. rusty-kuntz said: if we use anon’s logic, than any couple that gets weds without the intention, or ability, to have children is not a true marriage. and honestly the definition of marriage has changed hundreds of times throughout history.
